Getting started
This guide covers how to set up Inco, open your personal anonymous inbox, and begin receiving anonymous questions from friends and server members.
Promo keywords can be customized in your .env file via PROMO_KEYWORDS (supporting comma-separated values such as #inco, inco, inco.me).
1. Inviting Inco to your Server
To invite Inco to any Discord server where you have administrative or “Manage Server” permissions:
- Use your bot's OAuth2 invitation link with the following permissions:
botandapplications.commandsscopes- Permissions: Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files, Use External Emojis, Read Message History
- Verify that Inco appears in the server member list.
Inco operates under a 100% Freemium Model. There are no command paywalls and no requirement for servers to pay a subscription to use Inco.
2. Opening Your Anonymous Inbox
Before anyone can ask you questions, you must open your question box:
/inbox openWhat happens when you open your inbox?
- Free Tier Users:
- You are granted a 3-hour (10,800s) active buffer.
- The timer does NOT start ticking immediately! It remains on standby until your first question actually arrives.
- You can keep your inbox open 24/7 for free by adding
#inco(or your configured promo keyword) into your Discord Custom Status.
- Plus & Pro Users:
- Your inbox is immediately active 24/7 without any time limits or status requirements.
3. How People Ask You Questions
Once your inbox is open, users can send you questions using two methods:
Method A: Slash Command
In any server where Inco is present, users can ask you by typing your username directly, even if you are not in the same server:
/ask user:YourUsernameSenders can also enter your @mention or your numeric Discord User ID. A Discord Modal will appear asking for the anonymous message (5 to 500 characters).
Method B: Right-Click Context Menu
- Right-click the user's avatar or username in any chat or member list.
- Navigate to Apps → Send Inco Question.
- Type your anonymous question into the popup modal and hit Submit.
4. Receiving and Managing Questions in DM
When someone sends you a question:
- Inco delivers a sleek, dark-slate embed directly to your Discord Direct Messages.
- The message includes three persistent action buttons:
- Reply Anonymously: Send an anonymous response back to the author.
- View Sender Clues: Inspect subtle clues about who sent the message (unlocked for Plus & Pro tiers).
- Block Sender: Silently block the sender from ever sending you questions again.
